Gen. David Petraeus, the four-star general who has been leading troops in Iraq, has been tapped to become the next commander of U.S. Central Command.
Secretary of State Robert Gates made the announcement at a news conference in Washington D.C. on Wednesday morning

If confirmed by the Senate, Petraeus would replace Navy Adm. William Fallon, who stepped down in March.

Promote the general that has become more more political, and less military, and want to bomb Iran.
I fully expect the Senate Democrats to get really, really angry, then fully capitulate.
This also ensures Bush's GWOT "policy" will continue to run the way he wants, because what new democratic president will remove Patraeus. I can just see the ads now.
